Marissa Jaret Winokur is happy to be back in L.A. after a whirlwind run as
Tracy Turnblad in the hit Broadway musical
Hairspray, where she won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress. On her summer hiatus from STACKED, Winokur returned to her star-making role on Broadway for a month-long run. Winokur was also seen co-staring in the romantic comedy film
Fever Pitch.
A native of New York, Winokur started her career on the stage, appearing as Jan in the Broadway production of Grease. After moving to Los Angeles, she quickly landed roles in the features Teaching Mrs. Tingle and Never Been Kissed. These were followed by her memorable roles in Scary Movie and American Beauty, where she immortalized the phrase You are so busted. In television, Winokur starred and executive produced the cable telefilm Beautiful Girl. Her additional television credits include recurring roles on Dharma and Greg and Moesha, and guest starring-roles on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jack and Bobby, Just Shoot Me, Felicity and Get Real.
Winokur is recording a children's music album with New Line records. Her rendition of Baby Face can be heard on the soundtrack for Son of the Mask.
